Answers:    To convert a VHS cassette to DVD, a DVD recorder similar to the CD recorder can be purchased. This recorder also will play CDs and DVDs, but improbably enough none of the DVD recorder currently on the market can copy CDs as well. To dub from VHS to DVD, simply plug the outputs from your VCR into the DVD recorder's inputs, press play, and press history on the DVD recorder. Up to six hours can be recorded on a blank DVD-R, but the best feature is obtained at the two- and four- hour settings. You also can use the DVD recorder to video programs off the atmosphere, and if you purchase a DVD-RW disc you can record your favorite TV programs -- transcription over and over on the same disc, similar to a Tivo appliance but with smaller quantity capacity. DVD recorder currently sell for $500 and up.

If you're going to journal using your computer, you will need the following hardware and software to convert VHS tape to digital format

What you will involve, however, is a video card that has a video input port, so that you can introduction the video from the VCR to your computer. If your video card does not have a video-in port, you will stipulation to pick up a designated video capture card from your local computer store, or replace your current video card next to one capable of video-in. In any case, breed sure the card has an s-video or RCA input port on it (and not newly a coax [cable TV] connection, for example).

3.A video cable to turn from the video source (VCR) to your computer.

4.Video editing software. This will most likely come near your video input device, or you can use Virtual Dub (free)http://www.virtualdub.org/

5.Once the video has be recorded to the PC, you will most probable want to compress the video and audio streams into another format so that it will all fit on 1 compact disc. You can use Virtual Dub for audio and video compression (the DivX codec [ http://www.divx.com/ ] will most likely contribute you the best video compression). Hint: video rendering is typically not done at the time of capture, as it is impressively CPU intensive.

6.If you plan on playing the CD or DVD on your home DVD system and want to be capable of choose scenes using menu selection, you will need to use some type of compact disc / DVD Mastering Software (such as Ashampoo CD Burning Suite). Hint: simply cassette the video compilation to disc using run-of-the-mill CD burning software will solitary allow you to play the video on your computer.
