On an feeble analog clock, what is the setting at the pay for of the clock next to the + and - setting used for?

I bought an old style clock and I don't know if this setting is used to calibrate the clock. Does anyone enjoy any ideas? I tried probing the web and have no luck...

Answers:    That setting is used if your clock is running too fast or too slow.
The "+" would be to get a slow clock a little faster.
The "-" would be to get a fast clock walk slower.
You would be either tightening or loosening the stiffness on the clock springs to achieve the desired result.

"Calibration" would be a correct residence since you're adjusting the clock speed to synchronize next to real time.
I consider it is used to calibrate. Call a local watchmaker or clock repair person and they will know how to tell you or refer you to someone who know.
