I convert avi files to dvd files when i monitor it on my dvd player it fits the blind but its stretched, philosophy?

i have window dvd maker,roxio straightforward and w media player
i use "Any Video Converter" to covert from avi-ntsc-(free!)
i enjoy "dvd flick" to burn straight from avi to dvd but i need a 9 gb disc.
running vista home premium on clean laptop hp dv6246
