Did videotapes come next to widescreen resort?

My husband and I are having a debate. Did videotapes own the widescreen option? I say-so no and of course he say yes. Please help solve this mystery for us.

Answers:    When picture makers shoot contained by widescreen, they're really taking square film and using lenses which block out the upper and lower parts of the photo. You can see the same effect on a standard TV when viewing a widescreen movie. It's call Letterbox display.

Very few VHS tapes contained movies surrounded by that format because all TV's at that time be 4:3 aspect ratio, and Letterbox was technically annoying as it affectively made the entire picture smaller.

There were a few exceptions. For example, Woody Allen's movie "Manhattan" could one and only be released to TV and VHS viewing by maintaining the Letterbox display. There may enjoy been a few others but it would not hold been standard practice.

In VHS nearby were no selectable 'options'. It be only contained by whichever format that was released.
No...they weren't digital...they be analogue...

so they didnt have menus, widescreen odds etc..
Wow.

Here is the scoop. TVs be made when hove video was not even thought of. Even so most movies within the early days of TV be still 4:3 aspect. Not until color and the likes of panavision lenses did a movie win released in a wider format.

Directors be striving to get populace into the plot visually and with bold music.

Although closely of movies were shot within wide eyeshade, the studios decided to manufacture sure for the most part they fit the 4:3 peak, until there be up and up chaos over lost parts of a motion picture, such as critical cinematography, and visual plot cues.

So most studios made available on VHS a set number of wide-screen formatted VHS tapes.

I intuitively still have the required collection, including Lawrence of Arabia, Ben Hur, El Cid, etc..

The size of the bar was a factor of the resourceful aspect ratio.

Here is a link to several titles of wide-screen VHS movies available.
