I've replaced the battery but the lcd won't display. Is the mobile just unconscious or am I doing something wrong? The battery is brand strange, I just bought it today.

Could be that the mobile is dead, but I really doubt it. You could own installed it upside down and the polarity is wrong. The other possibility is to make sure that it really is properly seated surrounded by its socket.
Many, MANY years ago, IC technology was rather delicate and human touch could well render it unusable, but that's extremely unlikely in today's watches.
