I enjoy adapters lay around ... can you use them beside other things or should you purchase what is suggested?

Bought a P-touch labelling machine and they influence to use an AD24 (no specs listed bar DCIN 7-9V). I have an antediluvian cordless phone adapter that is 9V and I can't find anything roughly speaking the P-touch adapter that tells me the other info. Obviously I don't want to use it if it will ruin it but the adapter is more than the device was! Can anyone make clear to me what the deal is next to all the info on an adapter??

Answers:    If the plug from your phone adapter fits into the P-Touch, you should be fine next to the 9v.

More than likely the adapter from your cordless phone will not fit on the P-Touch, since a great deal of companies have proprietary connections.

If you own a universal adapter, it should work. Since it have the majority of connections and you can select the Voltage. From the specs the P-Touch uses a 7 or 9 Volt adapter.

You wont damage the element by using a different connection... it only just wont work if an incorrect adapter is used.
Here's the deal - the adapter provides a constant amount of current at the voltage it lists. If the voltage from an adapter is like as the voltage needed by the device, then it should work OK. The singular reason it wouldn't work is if the device you are powering wishes more current than the adapter can provide. For example, my laptop uses about 9 volts DC, but if I used a tiny little adapter, the high-current laptop would burn out the adapter after a while.

So, look at the adapter and check 3 things:

1. Does the voltage clash? (If it's within a partly a volt or so, like using a 3.5 volt adapter beside a 4-volt device, it will probably be OK). You say that the P-touch take 7-9 volts DC, so it sounds like the labeler isn't too voltage-sensitive.

2. Is it AC or DC? Your device wants 9 volts DC, but if the adapter produces 9 volts AC, it's not going to work.

3. Does the adapter produce enough current? I don't know how much current your p-touch take, it may be in the guide, but that's usually a maximum figure. Try your adapter out, and have a feeling it to see if it's getting hot. If it doesn't get too thaw out after a while, you're good.
AC adapters are AC adapters. One company doesn't produce them any differently than another. Only the company name is different. But near are differences between adapters, themselves, that you need to be aware of.

Voltage rating & type, such as 9v, AC or DC
Current rating, such as 500ma
Connector size (probably 20 or more different sizes)
Connector polarity

Since yours is already set to be 9v, which is within scope, and current requirements for your P-touch are low, you shouldn't run into any problems. Your remaining concern is connector size and polarity. Plug it in; it will work or it won't. Having worked surrounded by electronic engineering for 30 years, I'd be incredulous if someone told me that they encountered any weaken from it.
You need to take to yoruself with tip polarity, voltage, and current ratings in the past you go playing next to this. these 3 values along with drum size will determine wether or not it is safe to use an adapter for another device. an actual AC adapter will not own polarity markings and it is important to record that many phone manufactorer engender AC adapters as opposed to AC/DC power supplies and the rectification process is repeatedly done inside the phone housing (or cordless reciever housing) using an AC adapter on a DC device is a way to spell disaster contained by the 3rd degree.
