How exactly does a keytar work?

I've been wanting to capture one for my band (I play grand piano and the keytar would let me move around a bit more) but I can't numeral out how the keytar plugs into the sound system.

Does it plug directly into an amp? Or does it enjoy something to do with midi hookups?

Can anyone relieve me? Thanks.

Answers:    This depends on the product you select...most of the production keytars today are simply midi controllers stripped down to be wearable....soooooo, expect to find Yamaha or Roland keytars that are midi controllers and that you'll need to plug them into some sort of midi nouns module.
Some older keytars, similar to Jan Hammer's were proprietary and triggered solely the sound generate modules connected to them via a custom cable.
A keytar that has sounds contained by it maybe outstandingly limiting, tho easy to take and go if you purely want to plug into an amp and jam.
