We travel by car profoundly with two infantile children and I can't seem to preserve a portable DVD player working for more than a year, usually less. It's getting fundamentally expensive to keep replacing them. I twig "You get what you discharge for." But I've even bought “reputable” brands such as Magnavox. It worked no better than the cheaper “off-brands”. The screens seem to be to keep working, after too short of a time they fall through to recognize a DVD.
