Whats the difference between an expensive GPS and a cheap GPS?

Size: The newer models are slimmer (less thick) and can fit within a pocket. The old ones are bulb-shaped, "uglier" and harder to fetch with you.

Cheaper GPS models own 1 million of them preloaded (sounds like profusely, but they will miss many places), better ones hold more than 6 million. Many but not all will agree to you add your own.
MP3 player: Can play music next to the GPS. Nice if your car radio doesn't play MP3, but the GPS nouns quality is merely so-so. More useful for audio books than music.
FM transmitter: The directions and music from the GPS can be transmitted so they play through your saloon radio instead of coming out of the GPS. Not a big deal to me but some society like it.
Bluetooth. For hands-free cell phone settle. I don't like to use the phone while driving, but it's nice to pick up the telephone call and tell population you'll call them hindmost without fumbling around near the phone. Even if your phone doesn't have Bluetooth today, I have a sneaking suspicion that it'll be common soon.
Accessories: On cheaper models they don't present you an AC adapter (only way to charge is through the coup¨¦ cigarette lighter) and USB cable (to connect to your computer for music transfer or spanking new map download). Most people will want them and enjoy to buy separately, which is a pain. Check first what comes contained by the box before you buy.
Quality of traffic directions and facility of use: People sometimes argue about which is better, Garmin, Magellan, TomTom or some other brands. I'll stay out of that here.
GPS manufacturer package the above things around for every budget extent, so find the model that has the right combination for you. At $300, you'll seize about partly the things I listed above, possibly more if you get a apt sale price. Happy hunting.
