Catching robbers stealing christmas decorations? Ideas for a camera system, or any other systems?

Every christmas my parents decorate their house and progress all out. My mom make wood characters and stuff. Well last hours of darkness someone stole one of the characters she worked hours on. She's accepted it as thats what hapens when you appropriate that risk, but shes upset, I know she is.

But to my question, I'm not sure if near IS anything, but I want to get her approaching some simple system possibly like a camera system that she can set up every year. I don't know much on the subject so I needed to ask some people who might know more more or less it, what would you recommend?

Also, does anyone have any other accepted wisdom to catch/scare off these relatives? I was thinking possibly sensor lights..
