WHY is the numeric computer keypad bottoms-up from the phone numeric keypad arrangement?
Answers: The phone keypad was second. Touchtone dialing didn't come up until the 1960's.
The numeric (10-key) version have been around for going on for 100 years; it was used for background entry and calculating machines (yes, mechanical calculators).
The phone be made different from the numerics because they didn't want people to ruminate it was some species of calculator. Also, the dial phones started with 123 at the top of the dial, so the phone wad starts with 123 at the top of the wipe. Made it easier for the new dialing method to be standard by the public.
So you can thank Ma Bell (Bell Telephone, now AT&T) for the difference...
