It doesn't make sense to me. Amazon Kindle be "sold out" in 5 hours after its debut (they never disclose how many). It's be out of stock for 3 weeks, and Amzon cannot even predict how long your order take. Ebay seller is fetching $8OO-1000 for it. It doesn't require an special cut as it's basically SONY Reader + EVDO Cell phone, both are available from lots stores. Besides, Jeff Bezo had 2 years to plan to deal in this. Am I the only personality who thinks within is something wrong here?
Answers: no, I think it hit bigger than they thought it would. After adjectives they make in that money from selling books. Not the actual unit, which is pricey for them to construct.
