Diff btwn TomTom VS Garmin GPS?
Thanks! i know nothing almost GPS units.
Answers: I use the Tom Tom One 3rd edition and resembling it. Before I bought mine, I did searches and saw particularly few bad comments in the order of it -- mostly that there should be more information surrounded by the quick start guide (the full instruction book is on the website). You can connect this GPS to your computer and download updates from TomTom. A few months ago (October) a consumer magazine rated it a best buy after conducting tests over a dozen units (there be several units that be rated highly developed -- but their price was profusely more). Go to the TomTom website for a lot more information.
It's small enought to fit contained by your pocket and will run for several hours (longer if you turn the brightness and volume down / off) on the internal battery. The speaker is clear and loud -- nearby is also a setting to have the volume increase as your speed increases. Businesses are included surrounded by the points of interests (gas stations, car dealer, hospitals, parks, police and fire stations, etc.); you can select to show one, or as many as you approaching. You can set it to warn you (with a choice of sounds) when you get hold of near one or more of these points of interests. It can inform you how fast you're driving, and can tip off you if you speed. When you plan a route, you can have it avoid toll roads, or anything. There is a "where am I" button that finds you on the map near just that one touch. You can enter a PIN number so a theif won't be capable of use it.
This unit doesn't speak the name of the streets (the more expensive ones do). This unit will influence "turn left 1/4 mile" and not "turn departed 1/4 mile at Main Street." Also, as with any GPS brand, in that will be some minor mistakes on the maps, but on this part you can correct errors and then you hold a choice to share your corrections with other users when you connect to the TomTom website (USB cable included).
Walmart, Best Buy, Radio Shack, and masses other stores sell TomTom -- copious have them Dutch auction priced in ad so you should be able to find a up to date one.
If he wants a TomTom its probably because he's used to how they work - which fiesta enough - both TomTom and Garmin are big well-respected brands. Nothing unsafe for a returned product - check that adjectives the bits e.g. cables are still near and get a barter
