Layaway policy?

I want to get my fiance an XBOX360 ($250+/-) for Christmas, and I also want to win myself a laptop ($500+/-). My budget is low, but steady, and I wanted to place these two items on layaway. I inevitability some ideas of where on earth the best places are to place layaway electronics, and a good return policy, too. I hear that Wal-mart counts the first down payment as the "purchase-date" and if it take you more time to pay it bad then at hand return policy dates state, next they won't take the item fund. Is this true? Does Walmart still have layaway? Please administer me plenty of information.

Answers:    Walmart has done matching as Target and now extend a credit card instead of Layaway.
