SWR Meter on my CB?

When I twist the calibration knob and set the meter to 1.5 does that tight-fisted my SWR is 1.5 or does it mean the meter is set wrong.

Answers:    Often an SWR meter will own a switch with 2 settings. One for calibrate (forward power) and one to judge SWR (reflected power).
Typically, in calibrate mode, beside transmitter keyed, adjust for full amount (or some marked calibration point).
Then, once calibrate and switch is set to measure SWR mode, that reading will be your SWR (transmitter key on).

An SWR of 1.5 is generally considered suitable.
SWR of 1:1 is best.
Higher than 2:1 is not very appropriate. (potentially risky)
Higher than 3:1 is bad - don't use at or above this height without elevated risk of damage to transmitter.
The meter just measures, it does not change SWR. If it is not calibrate properly, the reading is incorrect. You could damage your rig, if you transmit and the SWR is too lofty. SWR is affected by the antenna (and things essential it), the coax, connectors, conditions in the rig.
