Infared lighting how doea it work?

If i want a light that traces wen somthing go throught it how would this work?

Answers:    Infrared is an invisible form of light surrounded by the electromagnetic spectrum. I don't understand what you want.
An infrared emitter (usually an LED) is aimed at a photocell (usually a photodiode), and people or objects obstructing the towpath can be detected. Garage door openers sold these days use them to avoid closing the door on someone's manager.
