Answers:    If it's a phone line it should work. A phone dash may be copper wires in your home or business, but a call upon you place can go over fiber optic cable, terrestial microwave, or bounce off a satellite. It still adjectives looks the same to the user and the users equipment.
Why not? Can a fiber optic splash differentiate between one phone signal and another?
