Avi format to DVD....please abet?

I have a movie that I want to survey on my DVD player...I don't know how to burn it to a dvd I am converting it from avi to divx.....is this what I should be doing? Anything would help....Thanks

you just have need of a piece of software that converts the avi to divx... but I thought that avi WAS divx... Anywho - I use Nero 7 for all my converting - it works great and you can buy a copy on Ebay for $10 and after downloaded immediately. You can also check www.download.com for other software, free and not free.
