Storing battery?

Is it beneficial to remove the batteries "AA" from items past storing them for the next holiday season? What is the difference it they are stored surrounded by a drawer or in the item? If one removes them from the item, puts them surrounded by a drawer, then subsequent uses them, won't the power be deminished?

Answers:    You can 'store' your batteries, but do NOT put them within a freezer!! A refrigerator is O.K., (around 40 degrees F.) They will not later indefinitely, but cool storage helps.
I would remove the battery from the devices before storing them. The battery will continue to drain even if the device is stale. If they drain completely, you risk them leaking inside of the device which can ruin it. It would be better bad to store them in a drawer, or within a cool place, (I store mine in the freezer), they will still lose some power, but it's not worth risking your devices.
