Microphone feedback?

i recently get a microphone as a gift but have to buy an adapter so i could plug it into my amplifier (1/4 " standard input jack). However, when i turn the volume on my amplifier past 1.5, i win ear shattering feedback. How can i fix this problem?

Heres the setup:

Microphone-->XLR microphone chord-->XLR male to 1/4 " mannish adapter (audix T-50k)--> 65 watt amplifier input jack.

Answers:    Is it plugged into a guitar amp?

They usually don't work well near mics. My friend's band uses a guitar amp for vocals sometimes for practice. They place the amp contained by front of the band to one side and the singer have to stand at the back of the room stale to the other side to avoid feedback.

You never want to have a mic aiming at a monitor or cabinet. You'll other get feedback. If your amp have gain and master level controls... save the gain down as low as possible and use the master to increase the volume.

For live vocals... a PA system, a good mic designed for live vocals and an EQ / feedback eliminator is the process to go. A hitch or multi-effects for vocals is nice to have too...

There are some pretty affordable PA sets out nearby now. Adequate for amplifying with the sole purpose vocals or a couple musicians at a small bar or coffee shop. For a loud rock belt you really need something HUGE though...
