Answers: Is it possible. Yes, you will have to unstop the speakers (which is a bad notion if the speakers work fine). Sony designed the system with the correct gage of speaker lead. I mean is not similar to they just get hold of the first wires they can get a hold of. Bigger speaker telecommunication (lower gage) will not make the nouns system better (unless you want a better look or have it shipment more). If you want to get longer cable you can always put some type of nouns ends (anything for mid voltage will do) and extend it, just trademark sure that the connection does not allow them to short (ie touch) as it will burn the amp on your stereo. Now, this is when thicker cable may assistance as the longer the wire it requirements more copper so that it will not heat up. But unless you are running it at close to full volume you should be OK at almost any length.
BTW, 400 watts is not how much power it uses adjectives the time. When nothing is playing or when the volume is totally low, it uses very little power (wattage). In a simplistic means of access, at half volume your stereo is a 200 watt stereo.
New wires won't support you at all...
