Anybody Know of Headphones for Pure Silence Purposes? Not for Listening to Music?

I work in a small department that is extremely strident. The radio is continually on and one co-worker in exceptional likes to chat non-stop adjectives day long going on for non-related work topics. Fortunately, I have the faculty to wear headphones. But herein lies the problem. I can't locate any that are not for music-listening purposes. My chore duty is writing and I want to block out all reverberation. I've been wearing earplugs but this is getting antiquated, fast. They bother my ears. I'd approaching to find a pair of light-weight earpiece that are solely meant to block outside thud.
