My USB for my PSP nouns problem?

I am having a problem beside my usb cable becuase it doesnt seem to connect to my notebook at times. I know its not broken cuz my pc notorious it a couple of times but most of the time it say "unknown device" Whats wrong near it cuz i know nothing is wrong next to my cord and nothing is wrong beside my psp or pc but it fail to connect sometimes and recognizes it at other times.
