I want custom firmware on my PSP. What is the best item to do!?

I am really confused. I am going to get custom firmware but I dont know how. I could:
- Wait for my friends friend, he know how to do it.
- Do it myself, buy another battery.
- Go somewhere to take it done.
- Buy a "Pandoraized" Battery off Ebay.

There are in recent times way too plentiful options and adjectives I want is custom firmware! Thanks so much for your advice!
