Answers: I have one and I approaching it - for what I use it for (internet connectivity, Google Talk, IM, mail, simple games, movies, and both internet & FM radio, audio data taking). I have downloaded software (very easy) to do some of this. Gnumeric is a nice spreadsheet.
Battery vivacity is not bad. It does me for intermittent use for over a afternoon. Depends on definition of intermittent :)
Wifi works well.
It have a touch keyboard, so writing profoundly would be painful. The handwriting naming is poor. I understand you can connect a bluetooth keyboad if you really inevitability to.
The screen is great indoors, or within indirect sunlight, but in direct sunlight it is markedly hard to read.
Consider the 810 due soon, which have a slide-out keyboard, and apparently is better within direct sunlight.
Advantage of N800 - instant on, fits in pocket, cheap, virtuous battery time, lots of open-source software, free of charge. FM radio they don't mention in the ad.
Advantage of laptop - real grand piano, bigger screen, faster, runs window software, document production, big screen.
Value - up to you really. They are incredibly different tools.
