Is near anyway to retrieve record programs from a DVR?

I have a Motorola HD-DVR box. I own some programs recorded on in that that I wouls like to burn onto a DVD using my computer. I enjoy tried just connecting a USB cable to the front port but it did not read anything. Could it be that the port is disabled or something else? What else might I try in need purchasing a TV tuner card for my PC?

Answers:    You can use the Moto box's FireWire output for this. You install a device driver and capture software on your PC, after play the DVR and capture the digital output. The apposite news is the appropriation software is freely available. The bad report is it's a real time process to do the takeover. I have done it several times and it works fine.

There's channel too much detail to go into here, but nearby is an extensive write up on how to use the FireWire ports with a Windows PC at the knit below. This assumes you have the Motorola DCT-6412 or something similar. If you hold a different model DVR you may need a different device driver.
