I tried taking my DVR next to me to a friends house to show him something I hold record but it wouldn't work.

Does it have to be plugged within to the cable to register everytime you turn it on and boot up? That's what I'm thinking. I thought I could just clutch the dvr over there, plug it into the tv and play record stuff but is that a negative?

Answers:    im not sure almost that but I think you can bring output off of your DVR and transcription it onto a VHS or DVD recorder..
Usually no. But it depends on your DVR model and the company that made it!
