I know I can't record surrounded by HD w/ the Series2, I just want to be capable of record standard TV AND know how to use my HD cable-box to watch HD channel. I'm sure a bunch of people hold had this problem and I'd really close to to avoid the trial and error frustration of it all, if at all possible. Thanks for your responses.
Answers: You have to set your cable box to output interlaced (not progressive video). Then follow the instructions from tivo for connecting the box. You'll use the composite or s-video cable to distribute video to the tivo and you'll use component or hdmi cables to dispatch video to the tv from the box. You may need y adapters for the nouns output from the cable box.
In order to insure that tivo concentrate changes other work, I have the front of my cable box covered. That may be a problem for controlling the cable box.
