Direct TV upgrade to HD DVR?

I am currently a Direct TV subscriber with DVR service.
Would resembling to upgrade to an HD DVR, but feel that paying $300 is too much when they volunteer the receiver for smaller quantity for a new customer.
Does anyone know a opening around it?
My 2 year contract is up in May of 2008.
Dish or Comcast is offering an HD DVR for free.
Need facilitate or advise.

Answers:    I don`t know you should wait until your contract is up, and after move to dishnetwork or comcast, if they remain cheap. maybe once your contract is up, direct tv will automatically upgrade your for free as a bonus to stay next to them longer, thats how dishnetwork is....ive been beside dish for 5ys.
