Can my directv dvr set timer events??

As I was messing near my remote, I found that the timer option be not available. I only see that I am competent to record shows. But what if I do not want to journal shows all the time?? I cannot set timers?

I can program both my Series 2 and Series 3 TiVo by time & channel.
