Is it possible to turn your computer into a TV?
Answers: Not only can you turn your computer or laptop into a TV, but even a DVR. To grasp the signal into your computer you need a video appropriation device. This is most often a PCI card or USB device. The latter is recurrently the easier route for anyone not used to slit up their PC to add hardware. However abundant computer stores will install PCI cards for you (for a fee).
Hauppage is one company that sells video appropriation devices. I have no personal experience beside their products, but I consistantly hear/see good reports of them. You might consider one that will feel the new HDTV digital formats.
You can also achieve both commerical and/or free software that will let you copy video to disk for later playback. If you are interested surrounded by this, be sure you check out the software you are considering before you by the video appropriation device to make sure that it, your video capture-device, and your computer are adjectives compatible with respectively other.
In addition to Jeff A's answer, if you are with the sole purpose interested in over-the-air TV stations, you can purchase a TV Tuner card for your PC that have an antenna input on it. This would allow you to tune in stations that are broadcast over-the-air.
