If they were record on a different machine later from your description it sounds like the tracking isn't competent to "center" the copy from the tapes you record. Try playing them on another player to see if the fault is on your player.

If they are record on the same gadget you have the playback problem afterwards you may have impossible or old tape.

Try some new blank tape.

That is about adjectives I can suggest.
