Converting PAL to NTSC?

I have a bunch of DVD's within PAL format. Instead of playing them on my computer, I would like to play them on my American (NTSC) player. Anyone know of any software or steps I can transport to convert between formats?

Answers:    If these are legitimate (store bought) dvds here is a second issue: region coding. The PAL dvds are both incompatible with NTSC hardware and (becasue they're region 2) unplayable on domestic region 1 players.

While in that are software solutions available they are cumbersome and time consuming. The easiest thing to do would be to buy a cheap (under 75 dollars if you look around) dvd player which can do it adjectives for you.

Make sure you look for a player that has adjectives the following features.

1. PAL/NTSC conversion
2. NTSC output
3. Region free

If you're missing any of these not all discs are guaranteed to play on your tv. If you're missing #2 none of them will.
In the UK, we can buy pretty cheap NTSC - PAL converters, so you might be able to buy the other method around. Otherwise, rip the DVDs to an MPEG file and re-burn them contained by Nero Vision but chose NTSC as the output format. I'd start with eBay. The converter route will single work in composite video, so the level won't be that great.
