I hold an 8x DVD Recordable drive if I update the firmware can I use these 16x DVD-R's Or are they useless?

Its an NEC DV-6500a DVD+R DL and I was merely wondering if updating the firmware will make it so I can burn to these 16x DVD's I get for xmas. Thanks for any help I apreciate it.

Answers:    You can use those 16x DVD's right presently as long as your drive will burn to DVD-R disks. If your drive doesn't support DVD-R, they will never work on that drive. I buy the fastest DVD's I can get (better power disks) and I always burn them at 4x (better trait burn).
I'm not sure if the firmware update will allow you to burn at 16x speed, but whether or not you update your firmware, you should already be able to burn those DVDs you get for Xmas; they'll just burn at 8x speed!
