DVD ntsc or comrade ?

I'm looking at buying some DVDs - they are region free so that's not a problem but it also says they are NTSC and will play on any player.
I thought they have to be PAL for the UK.
I'm confused, please help.

Answers:    They will PLAY within a NTSC player... but you can not WATCH them on a PAL or SECAM TV.
if it is region free it should work on any dvd player, but it also means that it works on a ntsc region player. If the disc is region free as ably, it would most likely simply work on a region free dvd player.
