Question something like directv remote?

I just upgraded from regulard directv dvr to hd dvr (reciever hr 21).

But I detest the new remote that come with it.

Can I program my antediluvian control (from the regular dvr) to work with the hr21?

The ripened dvr's were made by tivo. The modern directv dvr's do not have tivo software and are not compatible.
