Is TiVo worth it? Or is it freshly in the region of as moral as my local cable company's DVR??
Answers: A TiVo is a DVR, but it has several advanced, patented features that other DVRs can't and don't enjoy. It also has a terrifically easy-to-use, well-designed interface. The downside is that they are expensive; you pay for adjectives of those great features.
Your cable company's DVR will only hold basic features, but it get the basic post done (records shows so they're ready when you want to keep watch on them). The interface may be a little more clunky and not as other laid out. They cost less, and depending on how they're connected, recurrently give you better picture characteristic (a TiVo with CableCards can contest the quality, though).
Only you can want what's most important to you.
price and memory
