What is a usb port?

Answers:    I am guessing that you are asking "What is a USB port for on a DVR". If this is what you are asking then for ALL Cable and Satellite Companies they are timetabled as for "Future Use". The USB ports are for being competent to connect the DVR's to your homes wired/wireless network. This allows the shows/movies stored on it to be transfered as a report over the computer network to a netowrked PC. Then the Shows/Movies can be edited and burned to DVD.

Now that said the "ONLY" DVR that have the USB ports activated are the Tivo Standalone unit. The DirecTV Tivo DVR's CAN be software upgraded from a third Party Software to enable the USB ports also. Other DVRs cannot do this at this time.
the place you plug contained by your usb cord
It's a port that's usually rectangular that, indeed, you do plug a usb cord into.
Universal Serial Bus, it's rectangular, about the size of the side of a dime lengthwise. It can be used for connecting masses things:cameras, mp3 players, even mice on laptops
