a few months ago i installed an ariel booster. i have 2 tvs running rotten it, one with freeview, one on anologue tv. the signal be really bad up to that time then when i installed it it be fine, about partly the signal bar be full. now it is final to how it used to be, and occasionaly freezing. i have checked adjectives the connections etc and they are fine. i have the proper metal connectors, not the c**ppy ones beside a plastic casing.
Answers: Some of the signal in reality comes through the cable itself.
Have you moved it or put something near it/on it.
When my signal go like yours I check the connections similar to you but I also play with the agency the loose part of the cable is routed till I find a better signal.
Urgh I bought one too - mine also keep freezing :o(
Going to buy a huge ariel for outside instead -
hopeless and a waste of money

try another one of a different type (you can other take it put money on if if does no good)
