What I want to do is basically own a PVR, but that works with an external concrete drive, since most of the market PVR's are 250GB max I be hoping I could find one that has a usb out to use as a subsidiary HDD, sadly I can't find one. So the subsequent best thing is I don`t know a TV tuner, but then it would necessitate to be plugged into a computer and that sort of defeats the purpose of timing something to text when you're not home.
Any ideas, products or work arounds anyone know of? Or am I stuck with a 250GB DVDR/HDD part?

I hacked my TiVo series 3 and added an external 500 see hard drive. It works close to a charm and really gives me the space I needed.
Other DVRs enjoy been upgraded too.
