HD-DVD & Blueray?

Could someone tell what are the above, and why would you use any.

Answers:    It's Blu-ray, not Blueray.

Anyway, they're both optical discs (like CDs and DVDs). They store more data than any CDs or DVDs and so their main use is elevated definition video (higher quality than DVDs). They are also used for games (for example, the PS3 uses Blu-ray discs).

Both are hoped to replace DVDs sometime, and there is competition between them to see which will become preferred (as near was between VHS and Betamax).
Blueray is Hi Def th same as HD-DVD better standard fils etc
