Should I get rid of my DRV that I rent and buy a TiVO?

I pay $15.00 a month for my DVR rental from my local cable company and I have been for about 3 years now.36 months x $15.00 per month is $540.Should I stop renting a DVR and just go out and buy TiVO?How much are TiVO's? Where do you get them? Is there a monthly fee?And if so, how much per month? I feel like I am seriously getting ripped off by my cable company! Can you please give me some advice??
Answer: Should I stop renting a DVR and just go out and buy TiVO?
Yes, most definitely.

How much are TiVO's?
It depends on which typeyou ge, but between $99 - $799

Where do you get them? You can get them at Best Buy, Circuit City and other stores. Or from TiVo.com

Is there a monthly fee? Yes. And if so, how much per month?
$16.95 per month with 1-year plan reduced from $19.95
$14.95 per month with 2-year plan
$12.95 per month with 3-year plan

but check the site for details, discounts and rebates.
yes
I did what you talk about. Tivo.com has the equipment and service. The unit costs money and you have to pay a monthly fee also. First year of service is usually free with equipment purchase. Tivo has to be connected to either a phone line or to your home computer network to get its updates. I like tivo because it learns what you watch and makes recommendations for upcoming shows and it has cool FIND features but can be a pain to hook up. You still need a cable box to get a signal source for tivo to record. Like I said, I did it and would never do it again.
TV Guide on screen offers free listings information available at the broadcast level. There is no monthly fee. The newest products support Direct TV. You can see models @ http://www.tvgos.com/support/

Cable companies pass on the data to the device in most cases.

If you have a cable box the DVD recorder will actually change your cable box via an IR blaster tapped underneath your cable box,
go to www.tivo.com for all the answers.
You are getting robbed? You need to switch to satellite as soon as possible. It is much lower and they have all the same service plus great picture quality, sound is awesome. Check out this amazing DirecTV special at:

You will probably pay about half of what you are paying now and their DVRs are under $10 bucks! More functions than cable too.
