If I purchase the Receiver and Satellite myself and have the subscription travel on my Friend's account (who lives surrounded by the US), where I would next pay him the monthly fees, could anything credible happen down the road? And how much can you assure me that something unpromising would happen?

You say-so your friend lives in the US, but do you? If you don't, be aware that DirecTV solely offers services surrounded by the US and what you are asking is called signal fraud. This comes next to some pretty hefty fines and jail time (not a short time ago for you, but for your friend).
And yes, they DO know when these things happen, so don't even try it.
