DVR Hard drive Upgrade?
I noticed a USB nouns port at the back of the box and I've call tech support to see if i can attach an external hard drive to it via USB to bring more storage space. Neither tech I asked will give me an answer, they articulate that that type of technology is in progress, which to me sounds similar to they are hiding something.
I actually have to have my DVR serviced once so until that time the tech came over I took out the strong drive and plug it into my desktop to put some recordings on my comp...then I realize that these hard drives are specially formatted and will not be traditional by my comp.
Any one know anything about these DVRs? Can I upgrade my unyielding drive without going through AT&T??
Answers: Typically the USB ports are disabled and reserved for adjectives features. If you aren't afraid to void your warranty, at hand are web sites that detail how to install a larger frozen drive and copy the old notes over. There is more on that hard drive than newly your recorded shows. The DVR's software also resides on the easier said than done drive. Do a search for DVR Hard Drive Upgrade and you should be capable of find something that will help.
You can search out forums at http://www.dvrplayground.com or http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisp... to see if there are any relatives out there that hold come up with hack to add/upgrade to a larger hard drive for your specific DVR. But I enjoy not heard of any at this time. The ONLY DVRs that can be efficiently modifed at this time are Tivo Standalone Units, DirecTV Tivo units, Comcast DVRs made by Motorola.
The USB ports as you found out are for "Future Use". They are intended to be used as a route of networking a DVR to a home computers framework. This is done by hacking the software, using a USB Ethernet Device similar to the Linksys USB200m or Netgear FA-120. Like I stated above the ONLY DVRs at this time that can be EASILY modifed to do this are the Tivo units and the DirecTV Tivo unit.
I would suggest looking/asking this question at the first two forums I posted to see if anything may be contained by the works for your DVR.
