I freshly switched from Dish to Comcast and the investigational HD DVR cable box sucks so discouraging, can I upgrade?

I just get a cable service because I moved and didn't want to deal near getting a new dish installed and they needed alot of money to install if I didn't give DISH an 18 month commitment. I am starting to regret it. The Motorola cable box I get from comcast can only register about a week or smaller number of the shows I watch.(I history alot). There is a really bad wad using the box too. I switch between fast forward and play and it steal at least 2 second. Also I have to make higher my arm up to point the remote at the box in directive for it to do anything. The DISH box I could point the remote the opposite direction and it would work.

Does anyone else own these problems with the comcast box? Is nearby an upgrade option to a better box? I read a story almost Comcast offering TiVo boxes in some areas, can you achieve these in San Jose?

Answers:    I enjoy Time warner over here (same as comcast)
and well yes Im planning to buy my own also. It sucks also but you will involve a cable card that the comcast will HAVE to provide.

Cable DVR's unfortunately don't enjoy nearly the recording space as Dish Dvrs enjoy. You can usually get up to 100 hours on a dish DVR and going on for 25 - 30 hours on cable depending on what you record. There is no upgrade for this the size they own is the size they have.
Motorola/tivo boxes are right in a minute only human being tested in the New England nouns. Very few customers have them, it is mostly contained by house testing. There is no existing word yet when they will be widely available. It will probably be a while if they are only just now getting assessment units out.
As far as the remote issue go...I have no perception I have on of the clean motorola boxes with the cable card on the ship and it works just fine
Generally No.

The cable box is tied into the cable and guide system resembling a computer. They are no-longer 'dumb' devices you can hook into with a different box.

The Dish remote be 'better' because it was both IR and RF - it would work from another room.

The reservation in the menu system be a problem in LA, but afterwards it seems to jump away, then come backbone a few weeks later.

I basically use a Harmony Logitech 688 remote (it has devoted PVR buttons, and a skip-forward button which the Motorola remote does not have). You might re-locate the PVR higher contained by your rack so it is always noticeable from your seat to build it more reliable.
You could always telephone call Comcast and ask them.

If not, call Tivo (they're purely over the hill surrounded by Santa Clara!) and ask why Comcast isn't offering their new product contained by Tivo's own backyard.

The Comcast/Tivo box has be in the works for a long time. Comcast started bragging give or take a few Tivo about 2 years ago...but zilch ever showed up. Tivo's headquarters decided to administer Comcast a run for the money by offering their hardware for free - but you still had to return with the subscription separately. Still, I think Comcast get the message loud and clear...
