TiVo versus Directv DVR?

How does TiVo compare to Directv DVR. I already have Directv service and if I want a DVR i hold to lease one for 299.99 then repay 5.99 a month for service. If i buy a TiVo I can get one for 99.00 and later prepay one year for 129.00. The TiVo seems approaching a better deal, but do they compare contained by service? I need relieve deciding. Thanks.
