Whats the best program for encoding .avi to dvd? ?

I want to burn the .avi movies to a dvd-r with perfect or at least possible near perfect trait. I get my .avi movies from torrents, and im currently using DVD Flick to encode them and img burn to burn them to blank disks. I'v already used Nero and frankly its just crap same next to avi2dvd, there all pixelated video and come out worse then their original playing. I want really apt quality, is there any software that will see me to do this?

ps- Im talking about freeware programs, I torrented CCE and TEMPgnc i cogitate it was called? okay anyway, because it was a cracked version the software have problems with dectecing certain things and ultimatly i trashed it. so dont reccomend anything that cost money!
