A magnavox CD/DVD .?

I have an older tv and use an adapter to plug in My old dvd player...
I bought a Magnavox cd/dvd player Home Theatre and am very inept at puting it together. Can I just put the plug ins from the old player into the back of the new on, even though one of the speakers(to the home theatre) has the plug in to the wall socket?
