if you use over-the-air (ie not cable/sat) you will not get any picutre short an external tuner on an hd-ready set.
1080i vs 1080p
difference is almost negligible, but if you plan to drop some serious brass on blue-ray or hd-dvd consider getting the 1080p, otherwise it makes no difference
