Why is my tv which single supports up to 1080i outputting surrounded by 1080p?

I have a 32" Vizio LCD TV, and it just supports up to 1080i. However, I am playing a game on it and it say that it is outputting in 1080p. What is going on? Is my TV going to be okay?

Answers:    Nothing to verbs. Your TV takes the 1080p signal and downscales it down to 720p, its home-grown resolution.
However, you may just want to set your hobby console to output in 720p to avoid the extra scale.
